The metal roofing industry has an abundance of manufacturers marketing products that are visually identical. However, while these panels look identical, they often feature different substrates and coatings that have varying levels of performance. Some may provide a long service life, while others feature inferior substrates and coatings that will lead to disappointing performance. MESA is copyright and patent protected, which means there are not any inferior imitations available. In addition, MESA is a professional builder grade panel that features a Galvalume steel substrate and PVDF (Kynar 500®) paint system. By utilizing a Galvalume substrate and Kynar 500 coating, MESA is the ultimate product when long-term aesthetics and durability are desired.
What kind of steel substrate does MESA feature?

What kind of paint system does MESA feature?
MESA is only available with a PVDF coating, which is identified by the resin trade name of Kynar 500®. Kynar 500 coatings are proven to provide the best protection against panel fade and chalk, resulting in long-term aesthetic appeal. In fact, Kynar 500 coatings are specified by architects all around the world for use on high rise and commercial buildings and are recognized as the industry’s superior coating system. What is meant by nearly invisible lap?
One of MESA’s outstanding features is the design of the lap, Most metal building panels are 3’ wide and the lap (overlapping panels) is often visible. The copyrighted and patented design of McElroy’s MESA panel enables laps to appear hidden, resulting in a more monolithic and attractive project.
Is MESA available in colors?
Yes, MESA is available in 16 fade and chalk resistant Kynar 500 colors. To download our color chart, click here.
Can I get MESA in other substrates and coatings?No. MESA is a professional builder grade panel, and is only be available with the longest life substrate and coating available.
Is my MESA roof energy effecient?
Yes, all MESA colors are Energy Star compliant, meaning they reflect much of the sun’s energy resulting in lower utility bills.
Are there any industry certifications I should look for?
Yes, the Metal Construction Association (MCA) is an organization comprised of the metal construction industry’s leading manufacturers. The MCA has two levels of certifications.
- Standard: A G90 or Galvalume substrate with a Siliconized Polyester coating system.
- Premium: A G90 or Galvalume susbtrate with a PVDF (Kynar 500) coating system.
MESA is certified as an MCA Premium product.
Does MESA cost more?
Because MESA features the industry’s finest substrate and coating – Galvalume and Kynar 500® – the cost of the panel is nominally higher than lower performing products. However, remember that metal panels are just one out of several components (wood, doors, windows, concrete, etc) that will be used on your project. Overall, the net monetary effect of specifying MESA is minimal. Especially when you count the additional peace of mind you will have with a panel that will meet your aesthetic and performance expectations.
